William Stanley Hayter  

(1901-1988)

William Hayter was born in London, England in 1901. He was a painter and printmaker well-known for his abstraction and modern figure studies. He founded the influential printmaking workshop Atelier 17 which trained museums active in the twentieth century, and his works have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Corcoran Gallery Biennial, and Whitney Museum of American Art. He died in 1988.
