Joseph Hirsch  

(1910-1981)

Joseph Hirsch was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1910. He was a painter, printmaker and illustrator who was well-known for his social realism and modern depiction of American life. He was taught by George Luks, and studied and taught at the Art Students League of New York. His works were exhibited at The Art Institute of Chicago, Artists of America Denver Rotary Club, Carnegie institute, Corcoran Gallery Biennial, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He died in New York City in 1981.
