Richard F. Gates  

(b. 1915)

Richard F. Gates was a painter, graphic artist, and teacher born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1915. He studied at The University of Iowa with Grant Wood, and studied under J. Charlot. His works were exhibited at the Iowa Art Salon from 1933 to 1934 and The Iowa Artists Exhibit in Mt. Vernon in 1938. He was a teacher at The University of Iowa, and worked on the Iowa State Mural. His works include murals for WPA projects in the post office in Harlan, Iowa; and the Physics Building of the University of Iowa. He is listed in Iowa Artists of the First Hundred Years by Ness & Orwig.
