Peter Grippe
(1912-2002)
Peter Grippe (Grip-pe) was born in Buffalo, New York in 1912. He was a painter, printmaker, sculptor, and illustrator who was well-known for his modern depiction of American life. He was taught by Stanley William Hayter, and studied and taught at Atelier 17, and Pratt Institute. He was a member of the American Abstract Artists, and WPA/ Federal Arts Project Associations. His works were exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Pennsylvania Academy, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He received the Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship Award. He died in Orient, New York in 2002.
