Eliot Candee Clark
(1883-1980)
Eliot Candee Clark was a writer, educator, and painter born in New York City in 1883. He studied at the Art Students League, and also in Europe from 1904 to 1906. He was a member and president of the National Academy in from 1956 to 1959, as well as the president of the American Watercolor Society from 1920 to 1923. He was also a member of the Boston Art Club, The National Academy of Design (where his works were given awards in the years 1912 and 1922) the St. Louis Art Museum, The Doll and Richards Gallery in Boston, The Corcoran Gallery Biennial in 1910, 1914, and 1919, and The Carnegie Institute. He often accompanied his father, artist Walter Clark on painting trips to Chadds Ford, Gloucester, and Ogunquit which some of his works depict. He died in 1980.
