Samuel Brecher

(1887-1982)

Samuel Brecher was a painter and educator who was born in Boryslaw, Austria in 1887, but lived much of his adult life in the U.S. He studied at Cooper Union Art School in New York; the National Academy of Design; and with Charles W. Hawthorne in Provincetown, MA and New York City. He was a member of Audubon Artists; Allied Artists; the National Society of Casein Painters; and the New Jersey Painters and Sculptors Society. He taught for the WPA teaching project in 1933 – 1938, and at the Newark School of Fine & Industrial Art 1946 – 1974. He died in 1982.
