Richard Evett Bishop
(1887-1975)
Richard Evett Bishop was an etcher and painter who was born in Syracuse, New York in 1887. He studied under Ernest D. Roth, and graduated from Cornell University. He was a member of the Graphics Sketch Club and Philadelphia Print Club. He was represented in “Fine Works of the Year” from 1932 to 1934, and his work “Canada Geese” won The Charles Lea Prize in Philadelphia in 1924. He lived in Philadelphia where he was a member of The Philadelphia Print Club and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. His Christmas cards are now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., along with four other of his wildlife prints. He was the author of “Bishop’s Birds”, published in 1936 by J.B. Lippincott. He died in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania in 1975.
