John W. Rhoden  

(1918-2001)

John Rhoden was an African-American sculptor who was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1918. He was well-known for his modern sculptures, many of which were public commissions. He studied at Columbia University. His works were exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Audubon Artists, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Guggenheim Museum, the New York Metropolitan Museum, the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania academy, and the Whitney Museum of American art. He died in New York, New York, in 2001.
