  Manning DeVilleneuve Lee  

(1894-1980)

Manning Lee was born in Summerville, South Carolina in 1894. He was a painter and illustrator well-known for his historical book illustrations. He was taught by Daniel Garber and Hugh Breckenridge, and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He was a member of Southern States Art League, and the Society of Illustrators. His works have been exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy, the Salmagundi Club, and the Society of Illustrators. He died in 1980.
