Curt Frankenstein
(1922-2009)
Curt Frankenstein was born in Germany in 1920. At age 25, he emigrated to the United States and settled in the Chicago area. He attended the American Academy of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. In the 1950’s Frankenstein began to break away from his early devotion to representational art and turned instead to surrealist painting. He first found financial success as an artist in 1957, when he sold paintings at the 57th Street Art Fair. Frankenstein continued to participate in art fairs since this early success. He was still attending about six fairs a year at the time of his death in 2009.
