american impressionism

American Impressionism is a style of art that evolved from ideas about perception and light first developed by French artists in the late 19th century. It did not reach fruition on this continent until the first quarter of the 20th century, when it was nurtured by various regional schools like those in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and California, among others. Many of the artworks in this gallery were produced much later but still rely on the basic painting techniques and use of color utilized by these earlier artists.
