Claude Viallat
(b. 1936)
Claude Viallat was born in Nimes, France in 1936. He is a French contemporary painter. He studied at l’École des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier from 1955 to 1959, as well as l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1962 and 1963. He also studied in the workshop of Raymond Legueult. In 1969, he was a founding member of the group Supports/Surfaces, a group of artists dedicated to a minimalist primitive aesthetic. He taught at many schools of art including Nice, Limoges, Marseilles, Nimes, and École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His works have regularly been exhibited at la galerie Jean Fournier in Paris since 1968, and he is currently represented by Daniel Tamplon Gallery.
