Walter Mattern
(1891-1946)
Walter Mattern was born in Jonestown, Pennsylvania in 1891, grew up in Allentown, and lived in Bayone, New Jersey. Studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Grand Central School of Art in NYC, as well as Kline-Baum Art School, where he was also an instructor. In the 1930s he was an active member of the Lehigh Art Alliance and the Circulating Picture Club. He was a close friend of Walter Baum. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and constantly with the Kline-Baum School of artists in the Lehigh Valley. He died in 1946.
