J. Jay McVicker (1911-2004)

J. Jay McVicker was born on October 18, 1911 in Vici, Oklahoma. He was an artist well-known for his abstract works, though he also painted traditional regionalism in the 1940s, and moved into abstraction later in his career. He studied and later taught at the Oklahoma State University. His works were exhibited from the 1940s - 70s at numerous institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum, the Dallas Museum of Fine Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He died on August 31, 2004 at the age of 92 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
